Justice ministers, Moroccan counterpart sign cooperation agreements

Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni and his Moroccan counterpart Abdellatif Ouahbi on Sunday signed two judicial cooperation agreements at the Ministry of Justice headquarters, aimed at bolstering legal cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field of justice.

The first agreement covers the transfer of prisoners serving custodial sentences, while the second focuses on mutual legal and judicial assistance in criminal and penal cases. Both agreements are expected to strengthen the justice system, facilitate the enforcement of rulings, and combat cross-border crime, according to a ministry statement.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Talhouni highlighted the historically strong ties between Jordan and Morocco, established by the late King Hussein bin Talal and the late King Hassan of Morocco, and further reinforced under the reigns of His Majesty King Abdullah and King Mohammed.

“These new agreements open broader avenues for exchanging legal information and expertise, consolidate the rule of law, and enhance mechanisms for cooperation in investigations, enforcement of rulings, and extradition of wanted individuals in line with national laws and international agreements,” he said.

For his part, Ouahbi commended the fraternal relations between the two countries and the constructive cooperation achieved across various sectors. He added that the agreements reflect the shared commitment to strengthening legal and judicial partnerships in a manner that serves the interests of both peoples.
